MANNEQUIN PARADE

OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. The first public entertainment in aid of the £lO,OOO quota scheme and for which the forthcoming United Nations Fair is being run, was held at the Regent Theatre last evening, there being a crowded attendance. Arranged under the excellent arrangement of White’s. Fashion Corner, the mannequin parade was an outstanding success. There was a wide variety of dresses displayed, including winter coats and frocks, costumes, afternoon frocks, semi dinner frocks wedding gowns and frocks, evening frocks and furs. The display was certainly , charming wherein was found much to delight the feminine heart. The following took part in the parade; Mesdames Russell, Thurlow, Mclntosh, Cooper, Misses Peillon, Walker, Foster, Parfitt, and O’Neill and two wee tots, Misses Bluett and Lowe acted as flower girls. Mrs. C. Broad was the commentator. Mrs. R Bush arranged the bouquets while Mrs. E. Parfitt was pianist. Mr. S. B. White opened the proceedings and in doing so thanked the audience for their excellent patronage, the various business people who had lent goods, his own staff for their help, the staff of the Regent Theatre and the assisting artists. During the interval the drawing of the various raffles took place under police supervision and present on the platform were Mr. F. A. Kitchingham (Mayor), Inspector D. L. Cal well, Mr..F. M. Dennehy (Secretary of the Grey Patriotic Committee), and members of the Committee. The results were as follows: Miss Perotti’s section: Miss A. Hamer, Seddon Street, Kumara, ticket No. 11421; Dinner set by Mr. E. Hollangher c/o N.Z. Railways, Greymouth, ticket No. 3459; Oak writing desk: Mrs. E. McFarlane, Hokitika, ticket No. 2179; Fire screen: Mrs. T. Goldsmith, 8 Chapel Street, Greymouth, ticket No. 2782. The Mayor said that he wished to thank Miss Perotti on behalf of the committee for the generous donation of the section which netted approximately £4OB 15s for the Patriotic Fund, made up as follows: Grey County £32 Is; Patriotic depot £96: Lady collectors £2B 10s; Street sales £242 , 4s. He wished also to thank Mrs. E. Gore for her generosity in donating the fire screen, and also Norton’s for donation of ice creams, and sold free of charge by Mr. and staff, the amount raised being £5 9s. The Mayor also referred to the coming United Nations’ Fair aAd urged an to give whole heartedly support to the worthy object. The following were the assisting artists during the evening: Mesuames FL Prescott and B. Dumbleton, Misses Sanson, S. Dowell, M. ana E. Cawley, Messrs E. and H. Boote and T. Hatch, the Miram Trott School of Dancing, and Miss M. Cawley’s Orchestra.’ The accompanists were: Mesdames Prescott and Best, Misses K. Gieseking and M. Cawley.
