Private D Davis has been spend ing leave in the district.

Mrs. G. Wright was a visitor to Greymouth last week. Mr. W. Berry jnr., Te Amata will visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W Berry next week. Miss Marleen Aldridge is spending a holiday at Wataroa. Mr. W Searle jnr. and, son Ron, were visitors to Hokitika'last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. Ferguson left for Christchurch vesterday. Mrs. Smythe, who has resided in the distict for the past two years, has returned to Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Thorn have rpturned after spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr. F. Vrobfleski, Hokitika is at present acting foreman at the Road Service garage while the foreman, Mr R. Connelly, is on holiday. Mr. Musso McLaughlin was a visitor to Pukekura during the week end. Mrs. J. Diedrick has returned after spending a holiday visit to Christchurch. . , Messrs B. Colville and F. Kidd paid a visit to the Salt Water recently, Mr. T. Egan has returned to Okarito. . . Mr. P. Nolan Wataroa was .a visitor to his brother, Mr. J. Nolan, recently. Mrs. E. Diedrich. Evan’s Creek paid a brief visit to Waiho during last week. Mr. A. Watt was a visitor to Greymouth. recently. Mr. M. Connelly has returned after visiting his daughter in Palmerston North.

Mr. P. Adamson has returned after paying a visit to Christchurch. Mr L. Peterson and Miss Walsh. Invercargill, are visiting Mrs. G Peterson. . Mr. H. Neilson paid a brief visit to Hokitika recently. Miss M. Graham, Waiho, has paid a visit to her mother, Mrs. J. Graham. , . Steady progress is being achieved bv the men working on the protection works of the Little Wanganui Bridge. Already one pile has been driven and another is almost ready. Altogether there will be twenty-two pies driven when the work is completed. A very enjoyable night was spent last Friday, when a euchre and dance was held to raise fiends for comforts for boys overseas Mr. L. Inwood was the winner of the euchre. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr. Frank Ford on the piano, and Mr. George Searle on the piano aceordian. ...
