Mr. E. Smellie returned on Saturn day to Christchurch.

Miss A. Aiderton left for Wellington on Saturday.

Miss C. Walker left on Saturday for Christchurch.

Misses -C. and P. McGirr, Cobden, will leave this morning for Christchurch.

Miss R. Ward will leave on Wednesday for Wellington where she will undertake essential work. Mr. H. T. Ratana, M.P., for Western Maori electorate, who has been a patient in Pa'tea Public Hospital for some time, has sufficiently recovered to be discharged.

The Dominion Youth Director of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, Rev. R. L. A. Crampton and Mrs. Crampton, superintendent of the shareholders, left on Saturday tor Nelson.

Mr. J. G. Smart, senior accounts clerk on the staff of the Public Works Department, Greymouth, has received advice of his transfer to Tuai, and will leave towards the end of the month. He will be succeeded by t Mr. G. A. Gibson, of Stratford.

The death occurred in Melbourne recently of Miss Rebecca Smith, a former resident of Greymouth. Deceased was the third daughter of the late Mr. G. S. Smith, who was a partner in the drapery firm of Smitn and Barkley, in Greyjmouth many years ago. She left Greymouth over--20 years ago.

The Governor General (Sir Cyril Newall) at Frankton Junction on Saturdav afternoon presented to Mrs.O. R. Duncan of Hamilton the D.F.M., awarded to her late nephew, Sergt. H. F. Rochford, R.N.Z.A.F. 'Die nursing staff of the Grey Hospital entertained Dr. D. A. Arnott, formerly senior surgeon there, to a farewell function before his departure for Hokitika, where he has accepted the l position of Medical Superintendent of the Westland Hospital. Miss N. Moffatt, the Matron, thanked Dr. Arnott particularly for his work as an instructor and on behalf of the nurses presented him with a fruit bowl.

Formerly Apostolic Delegate to Australia and New Zealand, Archbishop Cattaneo died on Saturday in Rome at the age of 77 states a Sydney message. News of his death was received in Sydney 7 by the present Apostolic Delegate,. Archbishop Panico. Dr. Cattaneo was appointed to the Australian Delegation in 1917 as successor to the first. Apostolic Delegate, the late Cardinal Ceretti. Since his return to Rome Dr. Cattaneo has been Canon at the Basilica of St. Mary Major and treasurer to the Apostolic Camera.

The death occurred suddenly 7 yesterday morning at his residence, Tainui Street, Greymouth of Mr. John Donovan Cullen, aged 64 years. Mr, Cullen had not kept very good health for some time. He was born in Auckland. He had keen with the Public Works Department for more than 30 years, 25 years of which were spent on the Coast, He was lately employed as storekeeper for the Department at Greymouth, and previously worked at Otira, while the tunnel was being put through. His wife died about seven years ago. he leaves one son, John (R.N.Z.A.F.), and two daughters, Mrs. G. Robinson and Miss Marie Cullen ,(both of Johnsonville). The funeral will take place on Wednesday morning.
