RAIDS IN BRITAIN
PLANE CRASH KILLS NINE BOYS. (Rec. 8.45) LONDON, May 16 A plane crashed on a cricket field at Downside School near Bath while, a junior match was progressing and killed nine boyis and injured fourteen The pilot died in the crash. Seven Focke-Wulf’s bombed and machine-gunned a' coast town just before dark yesterday. There were some fatalities and damage. One raider was shot down. Our fighters also destroyed an enemy plane off the south-west coast home counties. A fighter squadron yesterday shot down three enemy aircraft, bringing their station total to one thousand, and one Canadian and a Fighting French Pilot each shot down his thousandth plane to which is attached a cash prize of at least three hundred sterling, the. result of a sweepstake organised by pilots who are drawn from Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, France, and’ other countries.
NORTH-EAST TOWNS RAIDED. (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May, 16. Raiders made a concentrated attack on a north-east coast town early today and dropped a considerable number of high explosives and incendiaries. Some fires were started. Houses and a number of buildings were burnt out, and others damaged by bombs. A small number of raiders were over another north-east coast town and damaged houses. There was a number of casualties in both towns. A terrific barrage met the raiders.
