GENERAL SMUTS REVIEWS .CONTRIBUTION (Rec. 8.30) CAPETOWN, May 13. General Smuts, in a broadcast said that from a European population of 2,250,000 South Africa had provided over three hundred thousand fulltime and part-time volunteers, ot whom 86,000 were on active service outside the Union. There were also a 100,000 non-Europeans. He added that war workers totalled many thousands. They had produced over three hundred million rounds of small arms ammunition, 250,000 shells, 35,000 transport vehicles, and had repaired over 6000 ships and 4000 armoured cars. South Africa had sent 2,500,000 spares for tanks and nlanes to the Middle East, also ten thousand tons of aerial bombs.
