Mr. E. Smellie, Apiary Instructor, Christchurch, is visiting Greymou;

A British Official Wireless messar.. 1 states that the award of two Victoria Crosses has been gazetted: one to Lieutenant-Colonel D. E. K. Anthony Seagrim, of the Green Howards, awarded posthumously, and the other to Havildar Parkash Singh. Eighth Punjab Regiment. Lieutenant-Col-onel Seagrim won the decoration for deeds of valour at the Mareth Line, and Singh in the Mayu Peninsula fighting, where he twice rescued companions under heavy Japanese fire.

Many tributes were paid in Britain to the late Dr. James Hughes, of Sydney, who was well known in New Zealand. It was recalled how he captained New South Wales and Australia against Billy Wallace’s Ail Blacks in 19Q8. and also how he went to New Zealand with the first visiting Sydney University team for matches against the famous Otago University team, which included Colin Gilray, A. A. Adams, and D. G. Macpherson. It was recalled also that he played for Sydney University in 1906 against the Auckland Citv Club, which included G. W. Smith, Tyler, Cunningham, and Gillett, of the famous 1905 All Blacks. — P.A.
