INSURANCE OF CROPS
WHEATGROWERS’- COMPENSA, TION FUND SET UP. P.A. WELLINGTON, May 14. Regulations under the Board of Trade Act gazetted to-night provide for the establishment of a Wheatgrowers’ Compensation Insurance Fund, which provides for the setting aside of a half-penny per bushel 'to meet growers’ claims against loss oy hail, flood, or frost. Upon a yield of ten million bushels the fund would amount t 0 about twenty! thousand pounds yearly, and if the claims do not exceed the moneys in the fund in any one year, the balance may oe carried forward and applied to claims the following season. Announcing the establishment of the fund the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) said that it was one of the practical inducements put forward by the Government for wheatgrbwers" to grow more wheat in this and future years. The regulations provide for ’>the appointment of. adjusters and assessors, and will be administered by the Wheat Committee.
