U-BOAT CAMPAIGN
FRENCH FLEET’S SUCCESS. (Rec. 7.40) ■ LONDON, May 13. The Dakar corresponent of the British Associated Press says that the Allied French Fleet based on Dakar has scored its first important success against the Germans. The cruiser “Georges Leygues” of 7,500 tons, sank a large U-boat supply ship in the South Atlantic and returned to Dakar with ninety prisoners.
SUNK BY NEW WEAPON. LONDON, May 11. One of five submarines sunk in a battle in the Atlantic was sunk by. a:-new weapon,, according to an an-. nouncement from Washington. Last Thursday a pack of German submarines attacked a west-bound convoy, but the enemy soon found themselves on the defensive. Five of the simmarines were sunk, others were damaged. and it is improbable that they would reach theit* bases. Prisoners were taken. Two of the submarines were rammed, a third blow up after heavy shell fire, a fourth was doE.'troyhd with depth charges, and the fifth' by the new weapon.
