REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.] REEFTON, May 12. Miss R. Yellowlees has arrived home from Dunedin. Mr James Pascoe of Auckland, a former well-known resident and his son, Jack, of the R.N.Z.A.F., who has been invalided home from active service, in the Solomons, have been visiting Reefton. Mr H. Ogilvie of Greymouth has been in Reefton looking up friends. The funeral of the late Miss C. Morris this morning was largely attended. The services at the Sacred Heart Church and at the Suburban Cemetery were conducted by Rev. Father O’Brien. A large number of people attended the funeral of the late Don Stewart to-day. Rev. A. Learning conducted the services at St. Stephen’s Church and also at the Suburban Cemetery. The Rev. J‘. Amos was inducted to the charge of the Methodist Church, Reefton on Wednesday evening. There was only a fair attendance owing to the short notice given. The Rev. Lawrenson, Superintendent of the Home, and Maori Mission Department, Mount Eden, conducted the induction ceremony and welcomed the minister to his new charge and hoped, with the co-operation of his congregation, he would spend a happy and profitable time during his ministry in Reefton. The sister churches were represented by Rev. Paterson (Presbyterian), Rev. Learning (Anglican). A welcome social to Mr and Mrs Amos was held later. Mr E. T. Baird, Circuit Steward, occupied the chair and on behalf of the congregation, extended to Mr and Mrs Amos and family a very hearty welcome to the Reefton Circuit and .assured him of the co-operation and help of the congregation, and hoped that his wife and family would enjoy good health while they resided here. Rev. Paterson and Rev. Learning also spoke, and extended good wishes and hoped they would have a happy time together. Rev. Amos returned thanks on behalf of himself and his wife, and felt sure that they would spend a happy time here. A very dainty supper was served by the Ladies’ Guild in real Methodist style full justice being done to the delicacies served. The proceedings closed with the Benediction.
