SWIMMING

WEST COAST CENTRE. The following were present, at a meeting of the 'West Coast Swimming Centre held on Wednesday evening: Messrs H. Rattray (chairman); G. Walters; W. Gieseking; F. Costello; W. S. McClymont and Rev. Brother Tarcisius. The Canterbury Centre wrote asking the Coast Centre’s opinion regarding an interchange of visits between the West Coast and Canterbury, along the lines of the Otago and Southland Interprovincial centre meetings.—The question was left to Messrs Gieseking and ’ McClymont, with power to act. Mr. McClymont was appointed secretary of the Baths Committee, in succession to Mr. M. R. Bunt, who has entered military camp. It was reported that one club' in the Centre’s district had not paid its affiliation fee, and it was pointed out that the Centre had to depend for its finance on affiliation -fees and the small percentage of receipts which it received from clubs holding carnivals, and that consequently the financial position was not good. Mr. W. M. Stewart was accorded a vote of thanks for a donation from the Technical High School of £1 Is. The Educational Officer (Mr. J. Stokes) reported that in the past season the following certificates were issued: Grey Main, 25 for distance swimming and six for life saving; Blaketown, 32 for distance swimming, Marist 25 for distance; and Te Kinga 14 for distance; a total of 96 certificates for swimming and six for life saving. Members complimented Te Kinga School on its fine record with such a comparatively small roll number.
