THE MAY DAY ESSAY CONTEST
We give to-day the prize-winners of the May Day bssay Contest for school children. In judging the contest the Kcitorial Board was faced with a difficult task. Many of tie essays showed outstanding literary ability for such \oung con testants. However, the essays were judged on content as we as literary merit. Even then many essays were not easj to separate. , It is regrettable that children at some schools were debarred from entering the contest. It is understood that the sponsors of the contest —the Grey District Miners Conned arc taking up this matter. Other children were given every encouragement by their teachers. . No entries were received in the open essay competition on “May Day, 1943.” The winning poem on an anti-fascist subject was won by Mr T. Anderson, Eunanga. Prizes will 'be posted to the winners by the Grey District Miners’ Council.
