35-FOOTER WRECKED AUCKLAND, April 27. The 35ft. keel yacht Dorothy, which was in second place in the Easter race from Auckland to Coromandel, was caught by a change of wind when it lay off the wharf about . midnight on Saturday and driven ashore on Sugar Loaf in Coromandel harbour, and totally wrecked. The Dorothy was owned by Messrs Chapple, Gray, Booth and McKinney, of' Ponsonby and was built 25 years ago. The crew saved the mast, spars, sails and other gear and also the lead keel, weighing one and a half tons. IMPRISONED FOR THEFT. AUCKLAND, April 27. Charged with stealing a gold engagement ring valued at £l6 10s, David Henry Reed, aged 27, in the uniform of an aerodrome defence unit, pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning. The police stated that Reed stole the ring from the room of a friend. He came to Auckland in August from Christchurch, where his wife and six children lived, and represented he was a single man, became engaged to a young woman, to whom he gave the stolen ring. The Magistrate (Mr Levin) sentenced him to three months’ hard labour. DELEGATION TO AUSTRALIA WELLINGTON, April 27. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said to-day that by arrangement with the Commonwealth Government, an official delegation, consisting of Mr W. Marshall and Mr J. S. Reid, together with the Deputy-Director of Marketing (Mr G. R. Pottinger) had been sent to Australia to discuss matters arising out of the economic stabilisation policies of both countries, including internal costs and price levels.

WANGANUI, April 26. Timbers from a launch overdue at Wanganui on Sunday were located by aircraft at the mouth of the Wangaehu river this morning. One plank, which bore the name Alma G., hasbeen identified as part of a converted ship’s lifeboat in which Gilbert Anderson, married, with two children, an Eltham abattoirs employee, put to sea at Castlecliff - at 4 p.m. on Saturday on a fishing expedition. A police party is searching Wangaehu beach. ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE. P.A. MASTERTON, April 26 Bennett Coles Middleton, aged 19, a rabbiter and seaman, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning that, at Clareville yesterday, he attempted to murder Richard Andrew Webber, a taxi-driver, and with having stolen on February 17, at Wellington, £43 from New Zealand Breweries. He was remanded to appear at Wellington on May 4. It is understood that Webber received an injury while taking a passenger from Masterton to Carterton at 12.30 a.m. on Sunday.

DROWNED WHILE FISHING. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH April 26 While fishing near the mouth of the Waimakariri river on Saturday, Stanley Sherwood Roberts, single, aged 40 years, of 62 Patten street, Avonside was carried over the bar in a flat-bottomed boat. The boat was overwhelmed and swamped by a wave, and Roberts has not been seen since. There was a heavy sea running at the time, and the river was in flood. Roberts was fishing with a' trawling net, the shore end of which was held by Mr. I. McMillan, of Christchurch, and four boys. The boat was swept towards the bar. Efforts were made to pull the boat to the river bank, by means of a rope on the net connecting the boat to the shore. The rope gave way, a'nd the boat went out to sea. DEERSTALKER FATALLY SHOT. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH April 26 One of the party of four spending the week-end in deerstalking in the Lewis Pass, Mr. Claude Hozier Reeves, married, aged 48 years, of Peverel Street Riccarton, was fatally shot on Saturday afternoon. The accident occurred, about 40 miles into the pass. A member of the partyf saw what he thought was a deer in the creek bed at the bottom of the gully, aimed and fired. Accompanied by two other members of the party, he descended to the creek bed and there found Reeves shot through the neck. Reeves who wa's obscured by bush, was in the act of skinning a deer he had shot.

WINTER PIG PRICES. P.A. WELLINGTON, April 26. The Minister of Marketing (Mr Barclay) announced that, to ensure that prices paid to producers throughout the North Island for pigs, during the Winter period were in conformity with economic stabilisation, a full investigation had been made of prices actually received by producers last Winter. As a resulr the schedule of prices would be adjusted as follows:— Baconers: —On Jtine 1 an increase of a halfpenny a pound, making the price for first quality exportable baconers on hooks 73d per lb., with a corresponding increase for other qualities. On October 1 there will be a drop of a farthing a pound, and on November 1 the price will revert to the present schedule. Porkers: —There will be an increase of a halfpenny a pound on June 1, with the addition of a farthing on July 1. There will be a drop of a farthing on September 1 and a drop of a halfpenny on October 1. The Minister said that all producers of Winter porkers and baconers would receive the increases. He also appealed to farmers to produce the maximum quantity during the Winter, as there was an urgent demand for pig meats, particularly to meet the requirements of the armed forces.
