BIG GUN DUEL
OVER DOVER STRAITS. (Rec. 12.5 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. British heavy guns were in action across the Straits of Dover after midnight on Monday. They kept up a cannonade for nearly five hours. The Germans replied. Later their bombardment fell away. The bursting shells, which lit up the English Channel, roused the inhabitants of southcoast towns. Many spent the night in the shelters.
