Mrs. J. R. Anderson is a patient in the Grey River Hospital. Mr. G. R. Harker left last evening for Christchurch. Miss Norah McGrath, of Greymouth, left hy plane for Wellington yesterday morning. Mr H. B. Duckworth, who has been visiting Greymouth, will return to Christchurch to-day. A Montreal message announces the death of Sir Edward Beatty, the former President of the. CanadianPacific Railways. Miss M. J. Millar, Postmistress at Cobden, will take up a position in the Chief Post Office, Wellington, in three weeks’-time. Mrs C. Da Pra will succeed her at Cobden. Messrs T. R. Brown and F. M. Collyer, of Hokitika, are entering the Air Force, the former having left to join up and the latter will leave on Saturday. Mr F. G. Hall-Jones of Invercargill, District Governor of Rotary, who has been visiting Greymouth in connection with the formation of a Rotary Club, will leave on his return by today’s express. Miss June Cunningham, of Three Mile, Hokitika, has been notified that she is accepted and has passed the medical examination, and is to report to an air station on April Ist, as a preliminary towards radio location study anc? services.

The famous Ukrainian playwright, Alexander Korneichuk, has been appointed Russian Vice-Commissar of Foreign Affairs, states a Moscow message. M. Korneichuk is the author of “Front,” the most discussed Russian play of last year, for which he received the Stalin Prize.—B.O.W.

The death took place yesterctay nt his residence, Bright Street, Cobden, of Mr. Silas Charles Martin. He was 62 years oi! age and 'had been ill for a long time. Born in Greymouth, Mr. Martin had lived here all his life, conducting a carrying business 'for many years. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters. Mrs. J. Kidd (Cobden) and Mrs. N. Parkyn (Oamaru); also two sisters. Mesdames Codyi’e and Byfield (Wellington). A P r ‘- vate interment will take place this morning.

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. F. Wylde of 41 Stapleton’s Roach Shirley, Christchurch and formerly of Runanga. will regret to learn of the death of their younger daughter, Francis Grace, which occurred yesterday. at Christchurch. The parents and family of the deceased young lady are well known on the West Coast leaving lived at Runanga until two years ago when they went to live in Christchurch. Besides her bereaved parents, one sister Constance (Christchurch) and two brothers Roy (Runanga) and Norman (Christchurch) are left to mourn their loss, and a wide circle of friends will extend to them deepest sympathy in their bereavement.
