MILLERTON NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). The local mine continues to work five days weekly. . Mr and Mrs S. Shaw, of Christchurch, are visiting Millerton at present. , „ , . Hon. W. H. Mclntyre left during the week for Wellington. . Mrs Brown and child, of Christchurch are spending a holiday with friends at Millerton. Miss J. Ferguson, of Nelson.- is visiting friends here. Sgmn. S. Peggie is spending leave in Millerton at present. Mrs P. McKinlay, of Wellington, was a visitor during the week. Miss S. Peggie has left on a visit to Wellington. Mr G. Orman has returned after a visit to Christchurch. Mr J. Tiplady left this week for Wellington. , Dr. Wen,die, of Millerton, left during the week on a holiday trip. Mr J. Tiplady has returned after a visit to Christchurch. Mines Inspectors Duggan, McArthur and Hunter are paying an official visit to the mines this week.
The Millerton children’s picnic was held at Mokihinui last week-end. Though the weather was not of the best, the children and adults who attended had an enjoyable day. The Millerton Returned Soldiers bowling team visited Granity last, week-end to play the Granity Returned Soldiers in a district fixture. The weather was fine and a pleasant afternoon’s bowling was indulged in. The annual meeting of the Millerton Medical Association was held with Mr R. Jack presiding. Mr Jack was re-elected as president, and Mr T. Burchfield was re-elected secretary (with Mr J. Burt acting as pro tern secretary as at present). Mr D. McMillan was re-elected as treasurer. Messrs Harden, Grace and F. Fox were re-elected trustees. Messrs Mazey, F. Cooper and Watson were appointed ito the committee. Mr W. Watson presided at the annual meeting of the Benevolent Society, when the balance-sheet was adopted, and it was decided to alter Rule 7 to enable the fund to be carried on.
The Patriotic Committee continues to hold enjoyable whist tournaments each Monday evening.
