SOCIAL SECURITY

BRITISH CABINET NOT SPLITTING LONDON, Feb. 19. ' No split in the Coalition Government will follow the Commons division over the Beveridge plan, says the Press Association’s political writer. There is. however, an impression that the Labour Ministers. feeling that they no longer commanded u.e united backing of the party, might have decided to resign. Mr. Ernest Bevin is reported to be in a particularly dissatisfied mood, but it is believed that Mr. Bevin will not leave the Government, nor will the rank and file Labour members make any concerted demand that the Ministers should leave the Government. They realise that such a weakness of national unity would have a' most damaging effect on the conduct of the war just when .success is being achieved. The crisis is likely to die down tor the time being, but whether a revolt breaks out will denend on the promptness of the steps taken to implement the Government’s promises. NEW YORK, Feb. 19.
