'Our Own > Stokers Jack and Jeff Tomlinson, N.Z. Navy, are spending a short leave here, visiting their mother. Mrs. J. Duley. Mrs. A. Brooks has entered the Reefton Hospital for treatment. Miss Valerie Thomas has left tor Greymouth where she has accepted a position. . , Mr. Lyall 'Tomlinson, of the staff of Revingtons’ Hotel, was a visitor to the township on Monday. . The many local friends of Mrs.] Maurice Flynn, heard with sincere regret of the tragic death of her son, Bill Halligan, which occurred as tne result of an accident in Blenheim last week. Bill who was only twenty Mears of age, was a popular playing member of the Grey Valley League Football Club. To the bereaved is extended the sympathy of the community. , Sergt M. D. Jobling and Private R. Beard, who spent week-end leave here have returned to camp. A deputation comprising Messrs 1. R. Hogg (Manager Blackwater Mines), S. P. Williams (President), D. Becker (Vice-President), J. McGregor (Secretary, Inangahua Miners Union) and Gordon Ward, waited on Hon. Jas O’Brffin, M.P., at Greymouth in connection with the bus service, and the closing of the local butcher’s shop. 'Dre deputation received a sympathetic hearing. 1116 normal bus service was resumed on Monday morning, while the other matter is being investigated by) tne appropriate authorities. I A large crowd attended the annual school excursion held at Westport last Saturday. The weather in Westport was unsuitable for outdoors, and the children were taken to the Theatre Royal. A happy but tired crown arrived home about ten ■ o’clock. The thanks of the committee is due to the Mayor of Westport, Mr J. Robertson, Ryan Bros, and Gibbs Transport Ltd. for donations also the proprietor of the theatre Royal and the manager of the bt. James Theatre.
