1 Saturday’s express from Greymouth carried 365 passengers in nine carriages. The express from Christchurch carried 400 passengers in ten cars.

An Auxiliary Fire Brigades’ tournament will be held at Greymouth on Saturday, February 6. Arrangements have not yet ben finalised, but it is understood, that, in addition to a number of teams from the auxiliary brigades, there will be twenty visitors from the Addington brigade taking part.

Several cases have been reported at Greymouth of coupons having been removed from the ration books of deceased persons before the books were handed in to the Registrar ot Deaths. It is stated that both old and new coupon books must be handed in to the registrar intact, except for coupons that have been used by the owners of the books.

The rate of pay for men attending medical examinations for the Army has been increased from 7s to 7s fad a day, or part of a day, from December 29, 1942. according to advice receive at Southern Military District Headquarters. This brings the rate into line with the increase in pay of soldiers on home service to overseas rates.
