(Q-ir Own (■rrespondimt;> The usual meeting of the Ross Borough Council was held on Tuesday, those present being: The Mayor (Mi K O Mav). Councillors J. Holmes; B. Gough A. R. Cunninghame, W. rlahertv and A. Thomson The actingTown Clerk reported that a new typewriter had been purchased, and was guaranteed for six months, dunng which time it would be serviced fite. The two old machines were handed in. The Inspector of Health submitted a report on inspections made during the oast three months, which was received. The Director of the Country Library Service advised that the Field Librarian would visit Ross on February 2. . The Minister of Transport replied to the Council’s representations that the South Westland road passenger service should operate from Rpss. stat’ng that the matter had been fully and carefully considered and nothing could be done at the present time. The tender of Mr H. D. Gardiner for the clearing of the Ross Cemetery was accepted. The monthly meeting of the Ross Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday, those prese t being: Messrs K O. May (chair), J. Holmes, A. Thomson, A Thompson, L. Jackson and Mrs Peebles. The chairman made feeling reference to the death of the late Mr Peebles and moved that the Committee record a motion of sympathy, the motion being carried, and those present standing in silence, the secretary reported that £65 ss_Bd had been forwarded to the Provincial Secretary the levy dh Ross for the present year being £172 Ils. It was resolved on the motion of Mr A. Thompson seconded bv Mr J. Holmes, that Mrs Chapman be thanked for her services, whch she gave so willngly, in supplying the music, for the patriotic dances.
