PAINLESS CHILDBIRTH
New American Method
(Rec. 11.40.) WASHINGTON. Jan. 22. The American Medical Association’s journal says: Doctor? Robert Hingson and Waldo Edwards, of the United States Health Service Hospital, at Staten Island," .have reported a new method of providing painless and safer childbirth. The method has been tested in 589 cases, involving 586 live births, with no maternal complications or deaths. The method consists of the continuous injection of a solution of metycaine, into the lower tip of the spine. It is called “continuous caudal analgesia.’’’ Physicians said that the method provided maximum comfort for the mother and minimum risk for her and the child.
