AMERICANS AT TAUPO

TAUPO, January 20 The weather at Taupo has been perfect for campers during the past week, but the hot, sunny days have not been good for fishing. Notwithstanding good sport has been enjoyed by the large number. All hotels and fishing lodges have been fully booked and launches plying on the lake have had to decline more passenger.* than they could take.

Many members of the United States forces have visited Taupo and the general opinion expressed, was that it was a wonderful place for a holiday. Major R. T.dwell stated that although he had done a deal of freshwater fishing in the United States, ttfey-had nothing there approaching the size., number and quality of the Taupo trout. Four American nurses Lieutenants K. Barrett, M. Neilson, I. Mclntyre, and ■ G. Budd, caught eight trout on the lake one day, including one weighing 5J lb. caught by Lieutenant Budd. They observed that the grilled trout lunch provided by their launchman was the most delicious meal they had ever enjoyed.
