TRENTHAM SIDELIGHTS Stylosa and Pastmaster were both <roing well when they collected one near the half mile in the Trentham Highweight last Saturday, and lost their positions. Stylosa came on again to run seventh and looked unlucky. Though reported sore before the meeting, Peter’s Wife put in a great run in the Trentham Highweight to finish fourth, a useful performance Drawn wide, and with 8.13 on his back, Koi Ragi did not run out the Wellington Stakes as expected and was well beaten at the finish Valebit, a Mr Standfast maiden with only one previous start, ran a creditable race to finish sixth in the Wellington Stakes. Back in his own class he should be tough to beat.

Duncroon is "ning to win further races. She was travelling faster than anything at the end of the Wellington Stakes, but the distance was too short for her. It was a good effort for a hack just out of maidens.

Subadar had every chance in the Wellington Stakes and was not good enough. He is not the scurry type A big and solid colt, he wants time and should run on.

Though all the best of the season’s two-year-olds were not on hand, Sea Spi’s clear-cut win in the Wellington Stakes ranks her among the best ot her age. Her seven starts have produced three wins and four seconds, a record for consistency that few other two-year-olds can boast this season.

One of the biggest certainties beaten at Trentham last Saturday was Good Scout, who lost a heap 'of ground in a big fields at the start of the Apprentices’ Plate and then failed by less than a length.

Snowman nearly tore off a good one, at million-dollar odds in the Apprentices and paid nearly a score on the place for dead-heating with Good Scout for second. Had he drawn close in instead of 17, Snowman might have won

The defeat of Barras in the Fitzherbert Handicap might not be held against him. He appeared field shy when asked to go up on the inside to two horses in the last furlong, but had plenty of running in him at the end.

As lan Galvin was injured In a fall in the previous race, J. H. Jeffard had to withdraw, his own colt, Virtuoso from the Fitzherbert Handicap, and put P. Atkins on Barrosa from the same stable. Barrosa was prominent to the straight, but weakened into seventh place at the end

Gayest Son’s half-sister, Marram did not get going properly till the Fitzherbert Handicap was almost over and she finished strongly for fourth place.

Queen Cardine, a place-getter in last year’s Duoro Handicap, was running' on fifth in the hack seven last Saturday. It was a satisfactory trial for to-day’s Duoro Handicap and the race would improve the Kincardine more for she has not done much lately.

They put it on Lady Nuffield in bundles in the Ruapehu Handicap last Saturday, but she drew 18 and was never in a winning position. Her form is better than that.

Glenfalloch is the right type to run out a middle distance. He was the only horse in the Ruapehu Handicap that could make afiy~impression on the winner. Sir Bradbury, in the final furlong.

Alethea was sent home after running on the first dav at Trentham, her trainer being under the impression that she has had sufficient for the time being. She did not get a clear run in the Anniversary Handicap and then was bushed wide by Rink making the turn into the straight.

Botany, favourite for the Anniversary Handicap, is much lighter in condition than at any previous stage of the sason, and failed to show out at any stage of the race

High Class had every chance in the Anniversary Handicao and was well placed at the home turn, but he failed to put any dash into! his work in the straight.

Flying Ace ran a useful race in the Apprentices’ Plate, but an inexperienced rider had difficulty keeping him on the course turning for home. His close fifth was a good performance in the circumstances.
