AUSTRALIA’S PLAN Outline of Proposals [Aust. & N ? Cab’e Assn.] CANBERRA, Jan. 21. |A social service plan being prepared by the Federal Government is understood to provide for the spending of £60,000,000 in the next three years. The details are expected to be announced bv the Treasurer (Mr. Chiefley) when Parliament meets next week. The plan provides,for the first instilment of an ; expenditure of £30,600.000, the remaining £30,000,000 to be spread over the remainder of the three years’ term. Federal circles regard the plan as the Gpvernment’s answer to those who demand an improved social system and a guarantee of social security after the war. The proposals are bei’eved to provide for: Firsbiy: Improved repatriation rights, including pensions for service women. Secondly: Sustenance for servicemen between demobilisation and civilian re-employment, and tugh servee pensions. Thirdly: National health and medical services. Fourthly: Maternal and child welfare services and pre-natal and postnatal payments to mothers. Fifthly: Unemployment benefits and a national housing plan.
