CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LTo the Editor] Sir,—A's you ar e .possibly aware there is an election taking place to fill a vacancy on the Canterbury University College Council caused by the death of Mr H. D. Acland, who was one of three representatives ot school committee members. As it is impossible to make personal contact with all school committee members I thought you may be -willing to make reference to the election in your columns, which I know arc widely read by those interested. In ‘setting out my qualifications from the primary and secondary schools point of view, I am submitting the following: Personal message to all members of School Committees:: In offering my services as a representative of School Committees on the Canterbury University College Council, it is important that I lay ’before committee members my qualifications for the position by giving a brief outline of my various activities during recent years in the high cause of education. The holiday period has made it necessary for (lie printed, word to take the place of personal contact, and trust I hat committee members will appreciate this difficulty and not neglect their opportunitv to vote. Here are some brief references: Over nine years’ service upon school committees: In offering my services as Linwood Avenue Committee, the largest open-air primary school in Canterbury; five years member combined Linwood Avenue and Linwood North Dental Committee (chairman for three years); member Canterbury School Committees’ Association for over twelve years (nresident lor two years, now 'vice-president): representative of Association on inaugural committee for institution of “Milk in Schools” scheme; assisted in formation of Dominion Federation of School Committee Associations of New Zealand (national secretary for one year) and organised national conference held in Christchurch in 1938; member Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors tor over five years, as representative of parents (this boards also controls the Papanui Technical College); foundation member Christchurch West High Schol Parents’ Assocition (now occupying position of vice-president). This school is controlled by the College Council on which I trust to have the honour of beino- one of your representatives; keenly interested in school libraries and .associated from its inception with the “Buffalo Scheme” now in operation with many Christchurch City schools Apart from educational matters, I am an Executive member of the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association and a member of the N.Z. Lepei Trust Board, besides several other organisations. If honoured by your support I give my assurance that the affairs of the Canterbury University College Council will receive my close attention and interest, and [ will endeavour to worthily uphold the splendid record achieved by the late Mr H.
