GOLDMINING
The return from the Slab Hut Creek dredge to December 23 wasi 35 ounces from 13,000 yards in 80 hours, and to -January 16, 1943, 109 ounces from 32,200 yards in t4B hours. The return for Associated Gold Dredges (N.Z.), for the week ended January 16 was 231 ounces from 80,000 yards in 363 dredging hours. - Gillespie’s Beach wash-up was 49 ounces for 199 hours from 21,888 yards. Wellington Alluvials, Ltd., whose dredge was laid up because of the labour shortage, reports that clean-up operations yielded smelted gold to the extent of 244 ounces, which is estimated to/be equal to 200 ounces of fine gold.
