U.S.A. NAVY HEADS

VISIT TO N.Z. Admiral Halsey Coming P.A. AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. The “N.Z. Herald’s” correspondent at a South Pacific port states that Admiral William F. Halsey, Com-mander-in-Cnief of the Allied Forces in the South Pacific area, will visit New Zealand shortly. It can be expected that this will be as soon as the pressure of important work on which he is now engaged in the north has eased sufficiently for , a visit to be made.

It is stated that Admiral Halsey will then do those things himself which, in the meantime, on his behalf, have been receiving the attention of Vice-Admiral William Calhoun, Commander of the Pacific Service- Force, who is of the strong opinion that the Command’er-in-Chief will visit New Zealand at the earliest possible moment. Admiral Halsey is stated to be looking forward to his New Zealand visit with great pleasure. so that he can thank New Zealand himself for its splendid cooneration with the United States Command, and for its continued hospitality to American forces in the Dominion.

Vice-Admiral Calhoun came to New Zealand solely as the representative of Admiral Halsey, and it is stated that .the only r.eason why Adi miral Halsey did not come On this occasion himself was because of urgent work to be done in the north. For this reason he sent a senior service Admiral as his representative, and everything Vice-Admiral Calhoun has done throughout his stay in New Zealand has been at the Admiral’s request and on his behalf. All the courtesies and hospitality he was accorded during his visit were regarded by Vice-Admiral Calhoun as being extended to him as Admiral Halsey’s representative, and all were accepted gratefully by him on behalf of Admiral Halsey. Vice-Admiral Calhoun was very pleased with the results of his inspection visit to New Zealand.
