U.S.A. POLL TAX ABOLITION. FOILED BY SOUTHERN SENATORS. (Rec. 1.0.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. The| United States Senate lias buried the Poll Tax Abolition' Bifi. Tnis occurred when a closure motion was defeated to-day. A majority of Senators favoured the abolition of rhe pok lax as a requirement for voting in the Federal elections, but Lie southern States’ minority organised 4 filibuster. wmc.h extended over several days, on the grounds that the Bill invaded the State rights. Finally, the Democratic Leader, Senator Barkley, agreed that if a closure motion were defeated, the poll tax 'repeal bill be laid aside, and the motion was defeated.
