IN NEW YEAR
CHRISTCHURCH BYE-ELECTION. WELLINGTON, November 24.. The bye-election for the Christchurch' East seat rendered vacant by the death of 'Mr Armstrong, will not be held until the New Year. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said that owing to the intervention of the Christmas holidays it would not be possible to make the necessary arrangements to enable the contest to be held before the end of the year. Apart- from the time required locally to enable the various official steps to be carried out, there was the question of arranging for voting by members of the forces affected, both at home and overseas, and obviously that would take some time. Mr Fraser added that he thought it likely that the byei-election would take place in either the third or the fourth week in January. 1
