Mrs Erskine of Bentham Street, has returned from Christchurch. Mrs Wilkinson of Christchurch, is the guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs G. F. Knight 1 Mrs B. Paul, of Derby Street, has left by ’plane for Palmerston North, on a visit'to her daughter. Mrs A. Walshe, of Queen Street, has returned from a holiday visit to Christchurch. Nurse Margaret Little and Ngaire Jarvis, of Christchurch, who have been spending holidays in Westport, leave on return to Christchurch today. Cabled advice has ben received that Li.eut. Alexander "Sandy” Slee, engaged with the Middle East Forces, has been promoted to the« rank of Captain. He is a son of Mr and ,Mrs W. T. Slee, Westport. Miss Maisie Drummond, of Inangahua Junction, was amongst the members of the W.W.S.A. heard over the radio from the Middle East on Sunday. Miss E. Vltaglich, who has been cashier at the Victoria Theatre for over thirty years, has now resigned from the position. “Em.” will be missed bv the many picture patrons who passed her way. Many parents and citizens attended ' the Theatre Royal for the young people’s competition. The stage was decorated for the occasion with greenery and flowers. Instrumental music, singing, dancing and recitations were the order of the day, and some striking talent v/as disclosed. The Mayoress presented the Johnny Robertson medals to Ken Smith and Earle Sara, and the Mayor presented the other prizes. The judges were thanked for their good work, as were others who made the competitions so successful. Mrs Mathewson deserves credit for her, management and untiring efforts.
