Mr. J. Raleigh left on his return to Wellington yesterday.

Mrs. Rose Murtha, who last week underwent an operation in the Westland Hospital is making favourable progress. " Pte. R. M. Elliott, who recently died of wounds in the Middle East, was a brother of Dvr. M. M. Elliott, of Hokitika, who is now' serving in the Middle East.

Mr R. K. Holmes was welcomed last evening at his first meeting as a member of the council of the Greymouth branch of the Canterbury Automobile Association.

Pte. Charles E. Johnson, of Yangan, Queensland, who has been reported a prisoner of war (previously missing) is a brother of Constable JJohnson, of Greymouth.

Visitors to Greymouth for the Evans-McDonnell wedding include Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Evans, Mr. L. Evans, Mrs. Murray, Miss Irene Scott, and Gunner S. McDonnell.

Mr. J. J. B. Connor, district officer of the Transport Department, who has been visiting Greymouth, will leave Christchurch shortly on transfer to Wellington. He will be replaced by Mr. Jorry, of Wellington.

Mr. William Whiteman, of the staff of the Cook Hospital, Gisborne, died suddenly on Monday. He was aged 42. His wife (a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Rundle, formerly of Greymouth- and now of Gisborne) and one child survive him. Mr. Whiteman was a native of England.

Mr J. A. M. Reid, stationmaster at Runanga entered the Grey Hospital and underwent an operation yesterday morning. His condition last evening was satisfactory. .Mr J. Curtin, of Christchurch, is relieving in his absencef.

A motion of sympathy with the president (Mr P. C. Heaphy) in the death of his mother was passed at last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth branch of th e Canterbury Automobile Association.
