Geary, of Auckland, has taken up tne position of Postmaster replacing Mr. N. Walls, who has gone to camp. Mr. and Mrs W. Hopley, Mr. and Mis C. Cleaver, Miss rionman, ami Mr. R. McLean, of Reefton, were week-end guests <at the Empire Hotel.

Mrs King, Senr. of Hokitika, is spending a few days here as the guest of her daughter, Miss M. King. Mrs. Leathwick, and Miss Leathwick are visiting here and are the guests of Mr and Mrs V. Leathwick. Mrs Jack Thomas, who has been indisposed for the past two weeks, is making a good recovery. Mr A. J. Smith leaves at the weekend on a holiday visit to the Hawke’s Bay district. Mrs Percy Lewis is spending a holiday in Ashburton. Mr. F. K. Ki'ttenberg is making good progress, while a patient in the Iteefton Hospital. The parades of the local Home Guard are being well attended. Boots have been issued, and a supply of battle-dress uniforms are expected to arrive shortly. The sum of £5OO was subscribed locally to the Liberty Loan.
