NO WITHDRAWAL OF TROOPS FROM NORTH.
(Rec. 12.0).' ■ DURBAN, June 3. General Smuts has announced that two South African Divisions in North Africa are being converted into tai divisions. “South Africans will remain in North Africa until Africa is cleared,” he said. “We are strong enough here to look after the defences of South Africa. We are reorganising the defences under the Coastal Command and Inland Command equipment is being made available for land, sea, and air defences to repel any attack.” General Smuts added that Major-General De Villiers had been appointed to the South African Coastal Command. “The man who took Bardia, Tobruk, and Halfaya, ought to be good enough for' you,” he said.
