WORKERS’ HOMES
NEAR N.S.W. MUNITION FACTORIES. OVER 1,000 TO BE BUILT. (Rec. 11.55). SYDNEY, June 3. More than one thousand homes oi a standard type for munitions’ workers and their families in various parts of Neiwt South Wales, are to be built almost immediately. At present many of the munitions workers are obliged to live in tents near their work. The houses will be of fibro or weatherboard construction. They will be only small) ones, but they will contain a bathroom, a living-room and a number of bedrooms. Provi-sion-will be made fox' the later addition of other rooms Making this announcement, the N.S.W. Minister of the local Government, Hon. Mr. G. McGirr, said: “The houses will) remain in use <mly for the duration of the war. The expansion of the war industries in the country towns has made the lack of housing accommodation therein a maj'or problem. Some of the workers have had to travel as much as sixty or eighty miles a da,v to and from their -work.
