A meeting of the above was held on Thursday, May 29, at which three new members were, enrolled. Lengthy minutes were dealt .with, also the following business: —

.- A protest was made against the inferior quality of present day footwear, which it was stated, was being imposed upon the public at extortionate prices. Overtures are to be made to the Standards Council, calling upon this authority to exercise its power to call a halt to the practice of cold-blooded profiteering by issuing a standard quality for observation by all tanneries and manufacturers.

The question of equal, pay for equal work done by women who are relieving men for military service was gone into.

Disapproval of the difference in conditions of the Army and Air Force was voiced, and enquiries into same are being made.

We beg to advise parents that, from enquiries made and information received, in cases of hardship, where parents find it difficult .to provide their children with school books, consideration will be given to each case by the head masters of schools.
