HOKITIKA, June 2.
Mr. W. Bruce, who was an inmate of Westland, Hospital for some weeks, has been able to leave the institution, and left for Ashburton this afternoon for a holiday.
Mr. L. Ross, is making steady progress at Westland Hospital. Mr. T. B. Gilloly, Dredgemaster of th e Kanieri Gold Dredge, is at present on annual leave, and is visiting Auckland.
Mr. Norman Friend, of Okarito. is here on a holiday visit. Tne death occurred at Westland Hospital! of Mrs. Barrowman, wife of Mr. William Barrowman, of Ruatapu, after an illness of only a few days. She was a daughter of Mrs. Spoor and the late Thomas Spoor, of South Hokitika, and was 44 years of age. The funeral was largely attended. . (
Various local firms continue to be handicapped through employees being down .with influenza. Basketball matches on Monday resulted as follows:—St. Mary’s 8 beat. St. Patrick’s 4; Koiterangi A 9 be. Koiterangi B 1; Convent A 7, bea. School B 3; School A 18 beat Victorians 2; Old Girls 4 beat Convent B2; Hospital a bye. Second Round: Old Girls 9 beat Hospital 3; Koiterangi A 10 beat St. Mary’s 6; Convent A 11, beat School A 4. Semifinal: Koiterangi A 7 beat Old Girls 6. Final: Koiterangi A 8 beat Convent A 6. Miss A. P. Duff presented the trophy to the winning team.
