Sir,—As there is nothing of a contentious natvjre in the following statement, we will be pleased if you will grant space for its publication: ,Fi;fty-thrc,e 'deliegates representing 42 organisations were present at the conference held in the Town Hall on March 23, 1942. These delegates elected a committee of 20 from the

members present; four of these are •a Do imer.ibgds of (the- f Communist Party. The committee at its first meeting, at which 17 members were pislsent, elected an executive of eleven members. Two of these are C’lso meinbers of the Communist Party. Since then the Greymouth branch of the Civil Service Association and the Greymouth Ministers Association have appointed delegates who also sit on the General Committee. We leave it to the public of Greymouth to judge for themselves whether four people can dominate and bring under their influence the other 18 members of the General Committee, or whether the two on the executive can exert a Communist influence over the other nine members of the Executive, we are, etc., .
