REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) REEFTON, May 23. The death occurred at Reefion Hospital yesterday of a Chinese, Chow Lichee. He was 86 years ot age and was a resident of Reefton tor ovefl sixty years. Mr. J. Discaciati presided at a meeting of the Patriotic committee. Mrs. J. blunter (Maruia) forwarded £1 towards soldiers’ parcels Miss McVicar, for organising a slipper raffle, was thanked. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mitchell (Reefton), expressing the hope that their son, Pilot Officer H. R. Mitchell, posted as missing, will be located safe. It was resolved to hold a “Victory Fair” in August. The District Patriotic Committee, at a meeting, received advice from Westland Committee that Inangahua had, contributed £574 7s Id of their annual quota. Mr. Stanley moved, Mr. Coghlap seconded, that the Secretary ascertain if this district had a quota last year for funds, and if sam e exceeded the fixed figure, would this amount be taken as a credit for the reduction of this year’s quota? The Treasurer (Mr. Aula;, stated that tiie total! funds collected to date for' the month, was £l9 19s lOd. £2,959 9s 3d had been collected in the district since the inception of the funds. Mr. Discaciati reported that the Committee had sent forward 99 soldiers’ gift parcels. The eases had been all packed and shipped to Wellington, ~ A splendid response had been afforded the Committee and in addition to a cake being placed in each parcel, a tin of biscuits had aiso been included. Rev. R. Seaton wrote asking the Committee to consider the appointment of a representative of the Reefton Ministers’ Association to the Inangahua Committee in his place.—Mr. Archer moved, Mr. Lord seconded, that the letter be received and no action be taken.— Carried.
