A member of Whangarei E.P.SOrganisation questions the fairness cf the proposal when a circular from the National Service Board was received to the effect that a key member of each bank should be available to attend to the disposal and safe keeping of securities and other valuables during an ® mer " gency. It was asked why banks should be given consideration which, apparently, was not to oe extended to lawyers’ offices and other institutions where very large numbers 01 securities were stored. The explanation was offered that bank officials acting during an emergency, woukl be registered members of the E.P.b.

Since the compulsory enrolment of Home Guard took effect about two thousand two hundred men in Auckland have been posted to the Guard. Further postings are rapidly being effected, as it is intended; to have a reserve.

The stoppage yesterday was’ the result of a dispute over the transport services to and from the mines, As one of the buses is being repaired, only two buses remain to convej about 80 men to. their homes in the evening. A Greymouth bus which assists in the mornings is not available at night, and as a consequence one bus has to make two trips in the evening. In consequence., a number of men do not arrive home until a late hour.
