15 DETECTIVES
After Melbourne Murderers MELBOURNE, May 21. There are fifteen detectives engaged solely on the investigation o± the three recent murders of women in Melbourne. Thev practically are without any clue to herp them as to Miss Hosking’s murder, and nave made little progress in the first two crimes. The knowledge that murderers are at large in the darkened city is terrifying the Melbourne women. There has been a marked absence of women and girls about the streets at night. Giris ar e now leaving their nightshift jobs when they have to walk home alone. Some of the girl employees are applying for special police to be stationed on all of the night trams to escort the -women travellers. Additional military provost patrols are being sent out to assist the police patrols. One city cafe with a big night trade is adding a dormitory so that its night waitresses can sleep on the premises.
