HOKITIKA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, May 21. (Mr- B. Watery Director of the Social Security Department, is here on a visit. , ! .•AzColonel Nicholls, Organiser for the National Party .is at present on a tour of Westland. Mr. S. G. Holland visits here next week. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Dowell, ot Greymouth, and Mrs. O’Neil were visitors to Hokitika on Wednesday. Mr. G. R. Harker, Regional Officer for the E.P.S., was a visitor yesterda, r'he Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock, presided at a meeting of the Emergency Precautions Committee last evening, there being a large attendance of Controllers. Mr. G. R. Harker (recently appointed Regional Officer) had a discussion with the committees, the Controller outlining the preparations made to meet an emergency. Mr. Harker said it was important to carry out trials. In Timaru the scheme was perfect. Hokitika would have to have trials to find any weakness. Mr. G. H. Chapman outlined the scheme prepared by him for evacuation, and was commended by the Regional Officer. It was decided to hold a trial on Sunday, between 2 and 4 p.m.
