FINAL GERMAN DEFEAT

IN THE PRESENT YEAR Stalin’s May Day Order ! (Rec. 11.25.) LONDON. May L M Stalin issZed a May Day ordei, addressed to aM Russians. He congratulated the workers on converting the customary May Day hoialay into a day of concentrated labour ioi men at tile front. He said: “It that our front and rear are umtea..y determined to overcome all annexties on the part ox victory. Sncc the German Fascists treacherously attacked us last June, we have now come to know their real aims> t ' J call themselves Nationalists, who are defending Germany’s integrity Independence from other attacks. That is a lie ihe Geiman Fascists, like Hitler, Goebbels, bentrop, Hinder and others, aie Nationalists, but Imperialists, wno seized other countries in order to enrich German bankers and plutocrats, whose watchdogs they are. The German Army, is in the hands o these gentlemen, and the Geiman Army is shedding blood for their circlement. They pretend to be tne defenders of European Culture. m actual fact, they are destroying it Fascist Germany, and especially the Army are undoubtedly far weaker than last June. "German people are becoming more conscious of. Germany’s defeat. On the contrary, the Soviet has grown stronger, and the people-are more united behind the Government than ever before. Our international relations have also grown stronger,' especially with Britain and America, with whom we are linked in ties of friendship and solidarity, and who are giving our country ever greater military assistance against the German Fascist aggressors. It is no coincidence that, after its temporary setback., the Soviet Army turned from th e defensive to the offensive. Its historic task of driving the Hitlerite vermin from Soviet territory was impeded by a severe winter, but nevertheless great successes .were achieved in addition to forcing.the enemy to use reserves intended for spring and summer operations. The enemy’s. atrocities, especially towards the civil poulation, inspired our men, who have become sterner and less forgiving. We are fighting this war for justice and freedom. We do not aim at seizing foreign territory. Our aim is clear and , honourable. We want to free Soviet land from the German Fascist beasts. To achieve this aim we must destroy the German invaders, to the fast man. if they do not lay down arms. There is no otner way.” After emphasising that the Red Army had everything for fulfilling this aim, M. Stalin ended by exhorting the Red Army to make 1942 i the year of Germany’s final defeat.

Germans Turn Against Hitler SAYS EX-REICHSTAG MEMBER. IN MOSCOW BROADCAST. (Rec. 9.40). KUIBYSHEV, April 30. Wilhelm Pieck, a former member of the Reichstag, broadcast in German from Moscow in refecence to Hitler’s recent speech. He said: “Hitler wants to destroy those forces which desire to end the war, and which are turning against him. Our people have (hald, enough of war. Workers, peasants, members of the civil service, office workers, middle classes. and intellectuals are all beginning more strongly to oppose Hitler’s war crimes. Big sections in loading economic circles, also the officer corns, are turning against senseless continuation of the war. Circles which have an insight, into existing conditions realise that the war has already been lost, and its continuance will lead to a comulete collapse of Germany. Hitler hitherto has alleged that the whole nation is united behind him. His speech cn April 26 proves this was a lie.”
