MUNITIONS AND SHIPS. (Rec. 9.10). WASHINGTON, April 30. General Somervell, Commander of Army Supply Services, stated steps were' under way to establish a network of coastal port agencies to expedite the flow of munitions to Allied Nations. He said: “The shipping rather than rail transportation, is the bottleneck of our war. But we are very much on the alert to solve problems next Fall, when moving munitions and men will reach a peak. Admiral Howard Vickery, of the United States Maritime Commission, in an address, said: This country will produce eight million tons of merchantmen in 1942, and fifteen million tons in 1943. This will exceed England’s whole fleet before the war, and will equal fifty per cent, of the total of world shipping before the war. VOTE FOR ARMY PLANES. WASHINGTON, April 29. Mr. Roosevelt signed an Appropriation Act- of 19 billion dollars, including provision for 31,000 army planes. The measure carries a rider directing the re-negotiation of anv war contracts deemed to permit excessive profits. The War Labour Board chairman, Mr. William Davis, announced that procedure was developed for a final settlement of ail jurisdictional labour disputes, between the American Federation of Labour, and Congress of Industrial Organisations unions, for the duration. The board statement said that this agreement will dispose not only of disputes between the unions affiliated with the A.F.L. and C. 1.0., but also disputes between unions within either thereof, which affect war efforts.
