MUFTI ALLOWANCES
R.S.A. VIEWS. P.A. WELLINGTON, April 30. The Dominion Executive Council cf the R.S.A. has drawn the Government’s attention to the following points in respect to the Government’s decision lo a grand mufti allowance of £7 10s per man to the Home Defence members of the forces. (1) That an overseas member is granted £l2 10s mufti allowance, while a Home Defence member receives £5 less. (2) That mufti allowance is payable to the Home Defence member subsequent to his discharge, or on his being placed on leave without pay. (3) That, an overseas member, while eligible, for such mufti allowance subsequent to his discharge, may not receive it when he is placed on leave without pay. In many such cases, patriotic funds have pa’d for civilian clothing.. The committee considers such distinctions neither just nor right in principle, and has presented a recommendation to the Government to the effect that, in the case of an overseas member who is placed on leave without pay, he should be allowed the privilege of either drawing mufti allowance when placed on leave without pay (similar to the Home Defence member), or subsequent to his discharge from the forces.
