By regulations gazetted last night, the Government Statistician is relieved of any obligation to furnish any certificate or estimate of the population of any local district or districts, for any date later than April 1, 1941. This measure is to meet the shortening of staffs in the Statistician’s office. and will remain in force until three months after the taking of the next population census. Where the population is a factor to be taken into account in deciding representation of .local districts, on a local or public body, or in the allocation of the oublic moneys, or in deciding contributions or levies the Regulations provide that the population as estimated on April 1. 1941, will be sufficient to meet .legislative requirements. Similar provision is made for adjustments when boundaries are altered.
