FREE FRENCH RECRUITS

FROM ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON

(Rec. 7.15) OTTAWA. March 17. One hundred and seventeen sailors and six girls arrived at Halifax from St. Pierre and Miquelon, en route to join the Free French forces. This batch of recruits said to be only the first contingent of a steady stream of islanders anxious to go out to prove their allegiance to F1 ’ ee France and the Allied cause. Ine diplomatic status of the islands still remains obscure, despite a plebiscite which showed that the islanders were almost unanimously opposed to tne Vichy regime.
