(Rec. 8.10). CAPETOWN, March 17. General Smuts, speaking in the Union Senate, said: "“The kind of attack against which South Africa should be prepared is that of bombing from seaborne aircraft.”. He added that everything was being done to see that the enemy received the reception he deserved if he came to their coastal towns. General Smuts paid a tribute to South Africa’s two divisions in North Africa. He said he kept a complete division within the Union ready to move off at a moment's notice. There was a second division not fully equipped, but able to be supplied at short notice, also large forces in reserve.
