Personal: Miss G. Thomson, who has been visiting friends in Westport, returned to Nelson on Monday. Misses V. and A. Bowden, of Christchurch, are visiting relatives in Westport. Miss Edwards, of Masterton, who has been visiting Granity, left yesterday for Christchurch. Leading Aircraftsman D. Erickson, of Blenheim, who has been yisitng his parents, Mr land Mrs E. Erickson, Romilly St., left yesterday on return. Miss’ Fox has arrived from Rongqtai on a visit to her people at Cape Foulwind. ' Mr E. Holmwood arrived from Nelson to act as relieving manager of Self Help at Westport. Company Sgt. Major G. Paul has returned to camp after spending leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs L. Paul. , Signalman E. J. Silcock has returned to military duties after spending leave with relatives- in Westport. Mrs T. G. Jolly, Brougham Street, has received word that her son, Spr. J. E. Jolly, has been reported wounded. . Sgt. C. M. Robertson was the guest at a farewell function when members of the Buller Rugby Union and supporters gathered to bid him au revoir. Mr J. McEnaney (president) said that his place on the administrative side would be hard to fill. He wished Sgt. Robertson, on behalf of the Union land supporters, the best ot luck in his military career and a sate and speedy return. Many other speakers referred to the fine sportsmanship of the guest. Mr McEnaney on behalf of the B.R.U. then presented the customry gift from the Union. Sgt. Robertson also received presentations from the Golf Club and Old Boys’ Football Club. Patriotic Funds: , Mr J. M. Robertson, chairman of the Buller District Patriotic Committee, acknowledges on behalf of Buller Soldiers’ Comforts Fund, the sum of £5 from Buller Caledonian Society. Education Board; The monthly meeting of • Nelson Education Board was held on Monday, the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre (chairman) and fall members being present. Mr O’Regan, Inangahua Landing, wrote stating he was not now prepared to sell any part of his land as a new school site for Inangahua' Landing. The chairman and the secretary were instructed to inspect Inangahua Landing School and report to next meeting on the condition of the building. After a report by the chairman and Mr Harkness on the proposed tar-sealing of approach to Seddonville’s new school the board decided to grant a subsidy of £2 to £1 up to £2O towards this work. Five tenders were received for the heatmg system at Westport North School The board decided to recommend to the department that the tender of Taylor, Ltd., Christchurch, oe accepted. Murchison Committee was granted £5 towards incidental committees’ expenses. The Education Boards’ Association advised the board that the Minister of Education wishes school committee and education board elections to be held as usual. The board agreed that the education board elections should take place, but instructed the chairman to interview the Minister, pointing out the great difficulty that will be experienced in country districts in holding householders’ meetings in schools owing to the- lighting restrictions and petrol shortage. Seddonville Committee was granted use of .a room at the new school as a dental clinic. The board completed the transfer of the Burnett’s Face old school to Denniston Miners’ Union. The following teaching appointments were made:— Assistant mistresses, Westport South, Annie Delaney and Mrs Winifred Hunter; assistant mistress, Ikamatua, Mary Cullen; secondary assistant mistrses, Granity District High School, Mary Thorp; relieving secondary assistant master, Granity District High School, no applicants, position to be advertised; Inangahua Junction, Miss E. Familton, of Tima'ru; sole teacher, Maruia, C. Henderson; head teacher. Clifton Terrace. J. Gourdie, being transferred from Tapawera. The following resignations were accepted: Head teacher, Murchison, S'. Gubbins; assistant teacher. Westport North, Mrs McElwee; assistant teacher, Westport South, Miss F. O’Gorman. The chairman and secretary were instructed to enquire into the question of the disposal of the Punakaiki School piano, when passing through to Greymouth on Wednesday, March 25.
