SERIES OF TORNADOES
120 Killed in U.S. (Rec. 7.30.) NEW YORK, March 16. At least eleven were killed and scores were injured; while many buildings were destroyed, when a tornado swept Eastern Illinois. Twelve persons are missing from a passenger boat, which struck a railroad bridge pier and sank in the middle of the Ohio River, near Wheeling, in Virginia. (Rec. 9.30.) NEW YORK. March 16. A devastating series of tornadoes swept through six southern and midwestern States on Monday, killing, it is reported, one hundred and twenty persons, and injuring approximately seven hundred, as well as destroying thousands of dollars’ worth of property.
