CALL FOR UNITY

AMONG ALLIES. (Rec. 9.55.) NEW YORK, Mar. 16. British, Russian, Chinese and Netherlands envoys joined President Roosevelt in calling for unity in the’war against the Axis, at a meeting in New 'York, attended by many diplomats. MT Roosevelt sent a message to the meeting as follows: “The supreme strategy of victory must be for United Nations to remain united in purpose, sympathy and determination. A supreme achievement in enemy propaganda would be to create disunity. Those who cry for a divided effort in indivisible war are serving as .obliging messengers o. Axis propaganda.” M. Litvinov (Soviet Ambassador), declared: “Russian successes have been such that the former Hitler Army which entered Soviet territory drunk with victory no longer exists. It is obvious that if Russian strength were increased, or if the s German forces could split bv a diversion elsewhere, it would be possible to drive the Nazis to the German frontier, Berlin and beyond.” Lord Halifax (British Ambassador) gave a warning that the spring and the summer of the year 1942 is surely going to put free men, everywhere, to such a test of courage and endurance as will match the darkest days of 1918.” He said: “We have lost much, and we may lose more.” But he pointed out that Britain and America were building up a formidable mass of aerial and naval power, while the enemv had pretty well reached the peak of his military and industrial strength. ' The Chinese respresentative, Mr. Hushih, said: “The entry of Britain and America into the war meant that a great Chinese dream had come true. China’s great faith was tardily, but at last, vindicated.” Mr. Loudon nledged that the Dutch wou.'.d continue fighting, saying: “No peace and no armistice is the slogan of every true Dutchman, wherever he lives on this earth.”
