Mr Stimson, War Secretary, announced that there are United States Army units, including air and ground troops, in considerable numbers now in Australia. No information as to the strength of the designation of these units, nor of their location at present, is available for publication. U.S. PLANE ATTACKS RABAUL WASHINGTON, March 16. A communique states: ‘Tn New Britain, on March 13, a single American Flying Fortress while on reconnaissance patrol, attached the Jap-anese-held Vunkanau aerodrome, at Rabaul. Several bombs were,dropped on runways, inflicting cnosiderabl'-’ damage. A direct hit was scored on parked aircraft, destroying at least two enemy planes. Our plane returned to its base 1 undamaged.
